Adoptions

It is our mission to rescue, rehabilitate and adopt friendly companion cats to forever homes. We are thrilled that you are considering adopting a cat from our rescue. There are four steps to take to begin the adoption process. One is to look at the cats that we currently have available for adoption or contact us to inquire about cats that we have that might be a good fit for your home and family. Please also feel free to contact us with any questions that you may have about these cats. Please also read both our adoption policies as well as our terms or adoption. A Foster-to-Adopt option is also available on a case-by-case basis for anyone who wants to foster a cat/kitten and determine if the cat is a good fit for their family before formally adopting them. Once you have identified a cat that you are interested in adopting, please download the adoption application and email us the completed form. Links to each step are available below.
Cats Available for Adoption
Some of our cats available for adoption are publicly listed in Petfinder and are shown on the Available Cats page. However, we typically have many others that are not currently listed that may be at varying locations or in different foster homes that may be available for adoption soon. If you have a specific request (age, color, coat length, sex, special needs, etc.) or would like to know what other cats that may be adoptable soon, please don’t hesitate to contact us to inquire about our cats not yet listed on Petfinder.
Adoption Policies
Please begin by reading each of our adoption policies which are listed in bold print. Further clarification of each policy is listed as well.
Terms of Adoption
Please take your time to read the terms of adoption that are listed in the adoption contract. The terms of adoptions serve to protect the cat/kitten and the adopter as well as the CCRR program.
Adoption Application - Option 1
After you have identified specific cat(s)/kittens(s) you are interested in adopting, please download the adoption application and fill it out and email a copy to companioncatrescue@gmail.com.
Foster-to-Adopt Application - Option 2
A Foster-to-Adopt option is available on a case-by-case basis for anyone who wants to foster a cat/kitten and determine if the cat is a good fit for their family before formally adopting them. Foster-to-adopt cases are those in which the family agrees to foster the cat and treat it as part of their family with the intent to adopt the cat if the adjustment goes smoothly. Foster-to-adopt is also used when a cat/kitten is not yet ready for adoption (e.g. waiting for an appointment to be vetted) and it is in the cat’s and adoptive families’ best interests to take possession of the cat before it is ready to be formally adopted. Foster-to-adopt families are responsible for daily care and feeding and routine veterinary care of the cat at their own expense (beyond the standard veterinary care provided by the rescue). However, the cat is still owned by the rescue and all standard veterinary care and any pre-existing veterinary needs will still be covered by the rescue before the cat is formally adopted. After you have identified specific cat(s)/kittens(s) you are interested in would like to select the foster-to-adopt option, please read the terms for a foster-to-adopt contract and download the foster-to-adopt application and fill it out and email a copy to companioncatrescue@gmail.com.
Adoption Fees
Our adoption fees help offset the costs associated with the cats from the time they are rescued until they are placed for adoption. When we rescue cats, they are often malnourished, sick, or injured. Any medical issues are addressed and the cat is given lots of TLC and time to recover mentally and physically. If needed, the cat is given rehabilitation both physically and mentally. Some cats need to heal from injury and illness, and others are fearful and distrustful of people and need a lot of TLC to learn to trust and enjoy human companionship. Rescued feral kittens are typically ill and need medical care and need to be tamed up which is a lengthy process. During the rest and rehabilitation time period, we feed, medicate, and provide clean litter and bedding. When the cat is in reasonably good condition, it is sent to a veterinary clinic to be examined and vetted by a licensed veterinarian. They are then spayed/neutered, blood tested for feline leukemia and feline aids, vaccinated for rabies and the initial distemper shot, and given an initial dosage of Revolution which treats for fleas, ticks, ear mites, heartworm, and common intestinal worms. The adoption fees are listed below. However, please keep in mind that this same medical care, if provided by a typical veterinary practice would cost several hundred dollars per cat. We are able to provide the same care at much lower cost because we are a federally approved 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Therefore, adopting from our rescue is tremendously more cost effective than adopting a “free” kitten and having to pay the medical costs at your own veterinary clinic. We often hear from people who decided to adopt a “free” kitten instead of paying an “adoption fee” and are soon shocked when they learn how much it will cost them to have the kitten spayed/neutered vaccinated, and dewormed by their own vet. If the cat requires more extensive medical care that exceeds the cost of the adoption fee, the rescue absorbs the additional expense. Donations to help further offset our medical costs are always appreciated. 1 Kitten (under a year old) $1502 Kittens $2501 Cat (1 year and older) $1252 Cats $2101 Exotic cat $200
